Chaturanga is a Chess Board and part of the Vārtā series by Deepti Designs.

Chess is said to have originated in the 6th century in India. 'Chaturanga' is a conceptual blend of the game of chess and the Indian epic Mahabharat. It showcases the infantry, cavalry and elephantry on the three sides of the chess board. Arjun with his mighty bow Gandiv, is on the fourth side which is adorned in the background by the verses from the holy Gita in Devanagari script.

It's an attempt to create a pictorial poetry by juxtaposition of the game of chess with the Mahabharat battlefield, as both of them have their origins in the ancient India - the Bharatvarsh!
