• Eat a healthy meal: Have a nutritious breakfast/snack to stay energized.

• Dress appropriately: Wear neat, age-appropriate, and comfortable clothes (see dress code).

• Bring your materials: Bring a printed copy of your speech. You are not allowed to read from the paper but you may create cue-cards (if needed)

For Boys:

• Top: Collared shirt (button-down or polo), tucked in.

• Bottom: Dress pants, clean khakis or jeans (no shorts)

• Shoes: Closed-toe shoes like loafers or clean sneakers (no sandals).

• Optional: A vest or tie if they’re comfortable

For Girls:

• Top: Blouse or a neat top (no graphics or slogans).

• Bottom: Skirt (knee-length or longer), dress pants, or a simple dress.

• Shoes: Flats or clean closed-toe shoes (no heels or flip-flops).

• Optional: A cardigan or light sweater for a polished look.

General Tips:

• Avoid flashy colors, characters, or glitter.

• Clothes should be ironed and fit well… not too tight or too loose.

• Hair should be neatly groomed and out of the face.

• Practice out loud in front of a mirror, family, or friends before speech day.

• Use cue cards if needed (with big, clear font and just key points, NOT full sentences).

• Keep it within the time limit - 4-5 mins (around 500-650 word limit).
